16th EGU-Plinius conference on Mediterranean risks

The 16th EGU-Plinius conference on Mediterranean risks will take place in Montpellier, France, on October 9-12, 2018.

The objective of this 2018 EGU topical conference is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussions on our current state of knowledge of Mediterranean risks, such as heavy rainfall events, strong winds, sea surges, floods and landslides. This will be achieved by bringing together scientific experts in the fields of meteorology, hydrology, geomorphology, sociology, engineering, but also governmental or private risk management actors.

This conference will also provide a meeting venue for ongoing international initiatives and projects, which seek better ways to investigate or cope with Mediterranean risks. In this context, 2 sessions are co-organized with the MISTRALS/HYMEX research program. The active participation of early career scientists will be encouraged via reduced participation fees and awards for best oral and poster presentations.

The abstract submission deadline is April 20, 2018. The abstract should be submitted online on the conference website :

Topics :
- Heavy rainfall : dynamical and statistical modelling, climate change impacts
- Floods and flash floods modelling and forecasting
- Societal impacts of Mediterranean storms and integrated approaches
- Advances in remote sensing methods for hydro-meteorological risk monitoring
- Mediterranean storms : diagnostic, meteorological modelling and forecasting
- Probabilistic forecasting of Mediterranean storms : optimization of information content and dissemination to the public
